SINReM at REWAS 2019

SINReM was represented at the 148th Annual Meeting and Exhibition of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS – https://www.tms.org/tms2019). This important annual meeting was attended by over 4000 people with all the important players in the minerals, metals and materials sector coming together. Umicore co-organised the TMS meeting for the 6th instalment of the REWAS conference series, which focused on “Manufacturing the Circular Materials Economy”. This unique, transdisciplinary conference featured a plenary session of invited speakers, five technical symposia, a special roundtable discussion and reception. Prof. Gijs Du Laing gave a presentation on his view on attracting new talent to the metals and mineral raw materials sector from a European perspective. He discussed the challenges, opportunities and bottlenecks for recruitment of international students within Europe. Wesley Crock, head of the EIT RawMaterials Academy presented the activities of EIT RawMaterials and Tom Hennebel from Umicore presented lifelong learning initiatives. Following the presentations there was a lot of interest within the US in SINReM, EIT Raw Materials and education in the field of the circular economy in Europe.
