SINReM was presented at the 148th Annual Meeting and Exhibition of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS – https://www.tms.org/tms2019). At this important annual meeting, attended by over 4000 people, all important players in the minerals, metals and materials sector gather. Umicore co-organised at the TMS meeting the 6th instalment of the REWAS conference series, which focuses on “Manufacturing the Circular Materials Economy”. This unique, transdisciplinary conference features a plenary session of invited speakers, five technical symposia, a special roundtable discussion, and a reception. Prof. Gijs Du Laing gave a presentation at REWAS, giving his view on how to attract new talents to the metals and mineral raw materials sector, from a European perspective. He discussed challenges, opportunities and bottlenecks for recruitment of international students within Europe. Wesley Crock, head of the EIT Raw Materials Academy presented the activities of EIT Raw Materials at the conference, whereas Tom Hennebel from Umicore presented lifelong learning initiatives. After the presentations, it became clear that there is also a lot of interest within the US in SINReM, EIT Raw Materials and on how education in the field of circular economy is approached in Europe.
