My student journey in the SINReM programme has been both transformative and rewarding. Academically, the programme equipped me with a deep, interdisciplinary understanding of the global challenges and how to develop sustainable solutions across the entire raw materials value chain.
In the first year, I learned a lot about resource exploration and sustainable extraction processes as well as recycling and entrepreneurship, all contributing to a circular economy. In the second year, my major coursework and hands-on projects further honed my skills in both sustainability and innovation, providing a strong foundation for my future career.
Today, the SINReM diploma has opened doors for me, and I work as a Supply Chain Management Coordinator at Samsung Electronics Nordic in Stockholm.

Earning the SINReM diploma from three excellent institutions has enhanced my credibility in the field and opens up opportunities. The skills and knowledge I’ve gained have prepared me to become a highly skilled professional. Alongside this, the beauty of Ghent, with its canals, biking culture, and charming streets, made my experience memorable. The city’s central location also made it easy to visit other European destinations, enriching my time at Ghent University.
Now I work as a Waste Management Specialist at the Urban and Household Sanitation Authority in Panama.
Chinedu Francis Anochie, Nigeria, graduated in 2024
As a SINReM student, I learnt so much – in theory and in practice – about raw materials in areas of mineral exploration and processing, metal extraction and recycling, modelling of metallurgical processes, while integrating sustainability aspects.
The programme also allowed me to travel to various countries and meet so many different people from various nationalities. Encountering different cultural perspectives broadened my intellectual, professional, and social outlook. Today, I develop my career in metallurgy, as a researcher in the Institute of Nonferrous Metallurgy and High Purity Materials, after securing a PhD in the area of REE recycling. Simply put, SINReM changed my life!
